In 2016, this custom home, located in Ft. Myers, FL, was struck by lightning causing a severe fire that engulfed most of the attic area. Though it appeared much of the interior living space had been spared, soot residue coupled with truss damage increased the scope of loss dramatically.
The insured immediately made the decision to engage Fabbro & Company Public Adjusters having had a similar loss in a home in Rhode Island that was successfully managed and settled by a Public Adjuster.
Within a few months, Fabbro & Company assessed the loss, prepared detailed dwelling estimates and personal property inventories and presented the proposal to the client for review. Revisions were made then a final version was presented to the insurance company. During final negotiations with the carrier, the home was suddenly flooded with fresh-water caused by an apparent pipe burst in the foundation. Upon further investigation, a PVC pipe under the foundation was discovered to be melted and finally burst, causing hundreds of gallons of water to enter the structure.
At first, the carrier disputed the cause of loss then conceded after specialists were brought in to determine the pipe burst was caused by the lightning strike. An additional payment of approximately $250,000 was recovered for the water damage via the Appraisal process bringing the total paid to over $780,000.
