FABBRO & COMPANY PUBLIC ADJUSTERS SETTLES $1.5 MILLION HURRICANE “IRMA” CONDOMINIUM ROOF CLAIM AFTER ROOFING CONTRACTOR IS UNSUCCESSFUL
In 2017, Hurricane “IRMA” delivered a direct hit on Southwest Florida. As a result, A Parker Lakes Condominium Community suffered wind damage to their 12 residential buildings. After making numerous temporary repairs, the insurance company conducted its inspections in conjunction with their engineering firm of choice, and several months later responded with a payment under $50,000. Not satisfied, the board of directors realized professional assistance would be necessary to prepare and present their claim.
Over several weeks, consideration was given to roofing contractors and public adjusters to handle the claim. After numerous interviews, a roofing contractor was successful in convincing membership that they could convince the insurance company to replace all 12 roofs because “We were successful in doing this for your neighboring property. We will bring in engineers at no charge to you and you won’t have to pay a public adjuster 10% of your claim!”. 4 months after engaging the roofing contractor no progress had been made and no engineers inspected the roofs as promised. The board immediately disengaged with the contractor and retained Fabbro & Company to manage and settle their community’s IRMA claim.
Immediately after being retained, Fabbro & Company assisted in selecting a qualified expert to evaluate the roofs. Upon receipt of the expert’s findings and recommendations, the board was presented with a comprehensive claim proposal for review. After final approval by the board, it was presented to the insurance company for consideration.
Within a couple months the claim was settled for $1.5 million in damages and net payment to the association of $1.2 million after deductibles were applied.
